Season 2 of 90210

Categories: , , , , ,

I just finished watching the season 2 premiere of 90210 and I was a bit perturbed by what I saw. This is a show that is obviously trendy, eye-catching, drama filled and interesting to young teen girls. I know that this is just a show but it bothers me to see girls drinking and having promiscuous sex with unknown men, younger women dating older men, back-stabbing, and women not finding the power to forgive. If the show wasn't filled with all these juicy ingredients, why would audiences come back for more? They simply would not. However, writers don't have to glorify problems that plague teenage society today. It is not okay to be 16 years young and dating men 40 years old! It is not okay to have wild sex with STD's running rampant, especially in the younger community.

We need to teach girls and boys, especially pre-teens and high-school bound kids, that these actions are not desirable and the end consequences can cause a lifetime of pain. Will I continue to watch the show? Yes, I probably will. Sadly I am hooked on the show and will need life support if I stop watching but I do want the writers to look at the possible negative perceptions they are feeding the teenage population! They are in a very powerful position to influence teenage thinking and if younger audiences see their favorite actors acting a damn fool...well guess what they would do? They do not know the different been reality and fiction...even though some of these stories are ripped from the headlines. Note to writers, proceed with caution!

Now that the good words are out the way let me say that this season premiere was different. I loved the way that the friendship switched from Naomi, Silver and Adrianna. This may not be the perfect relationship but three personalities that completely crash is quite entertaining. The girls are absolutely hot this season but can they throw a black sistah in the mix! I know Anna Lynn Mccord is apparently mixed but I would like to see more diversity. Even an Asian girl would be a great addition...too much white across the screen. Diversity is great but not token diversity!

Annie is definitely a misguided soul this season but her pain is what she needs to become a better character. Dixon needs to step up and stretch the acting capabilities I know he can do it and stop being the token black guy. I do think he should explore relationships with other women and what he wants to do. What does Dixon like to do? I don't feel connected to him or any of his story lines. But he is a cutie!

I am loving the Adrianna and Navid 'No Sex' story line. That is so sweet and I hope they stick to it but explore the dangers of temptation. I mean Adrianna already had a baby, been to rehab and had a whirlwind first two years of high school but they can do so much with her character. I love her this season. Navid has a little David Silver complex going on this season but he is a teen and acting on his teenage hormones.

They need to decide what they want to do with Naomi and Liam, how many episodes are we going to have to wait until the truth is revealed. Where is Kelly Taylor and Brenda Walsh?? I don't see a need for Brenda's character but bring Kelly back.

On my last note, I love how we were able to see less of the rents and more of the kids. I love the rents but they give moral support and that's all we need to see.

Until next week...
