Flash Forward Season Premiere

The season premiere of ABC’s new program, “Flash Forward” was decent. When I watch any television show, I have to feel connected to the characters; even if the show is new. Sometimes instant connections don’t form but it helps me determine if I like the show and if I want to continue watching. So far from what I’ve seen of “Flash Forward” I will probably tune in again but I am hesitant. I patiently await the estimated ratings for this show. However, this show has to prove itself to viewers other than the notion of waiting  to the season finale to understand why people are blacking out and seeing the future.

I am not sure if this show can have a future beyond April 29, 2010 at 10:00PM (that is the apparent doomsday for the entire world). I am so intrigued to find out how billions of people blacked out and had visions of the future. Anyway, I look for longevity in a show ( as I hope most people do)  but it seems all shows are made to be canceled nowadays.

I am going to continue watching the show because I want to know how the FlashForward’s occurred and what is going to happen. This show is definitely different than any other show I ever watched. There is uncertainty that is attractive and it will draw audiences back I can guarantee but I still fail to see the future.

I am a bit perturbed that there is a suicidal doctor on the show but whatever floats the writers boats! The acting was okay for most of the characters. I am not seeing Emmy worthy material just yet but Emmy’s don’t mean much in my world. What needs improvement? The special FX are horrible…maybe I am being a bit kind but the FX needs a makeover. It looks like a baby edited the show…so easy a baby can do it.

There are definitely areas the show needs improvement, such as: special FX, acting, storyline cohesion, insight into the lifes of all characters and why they saw what will happen. I am most intrigued with the person who was left standing when the world fell down. This is sort of scary given all the terrorist threats lately. The show probably has a supernatural glue that holds everything together. Maybe it’s not supernatural but super gases but why did the world see the future? I am thinking about this year’s blockbuster hit “Watchmen” and why Adrien did what he did…he did what he did for world peace. FYI…I am not giving up the storyline for those who didn’t see the movie yet but there is a major reason why all this is happening?

Maybe there is a Pinky and the Brain scheme, world denomination. Or maybe an alien has invaded earth and looking to kill off all humans and resettle the earth with other aliens. There possibilities are endless and that is what is going to keep me watching the show this season. But what about next season?

Don’t Be Tardy for the Party

I watched The Real Housewives of Atlanta this evening and I was blown away with Kim Zoliciak’s positive attitude and outlook to get back into the studio and record “Don’t Be Tardy for the Party”! What Kim doesn’t realize that this show has great ratings; "Don’t Be Tardy for the Party" is on the minds of all who watch this show. It’s catchy! It’s edgy! It’s something to be made fun of but can create buzz. Nene Leakes may be laughing at Kim but she was brave to get in the studio and lay the track down, at least the beginning of it. That takes courage, especially for someone who had a horrible experience previously. Kim is not the best singer but she has a passion and she is shooting for the stars. It doesn’t make sense to waste money on a career path that won’t bear any fruits but sometimes you need to satisfy the soul. Maybe its satisfying to the soul for Kim or maybe she just want’s to make money. There are plenty of singers out there who can’t sing for shit! I can’t sing for shit. But I appreciate the attitudes of those trying to better themselves by doing what they love.

Kim crying’s was real and filled with emotions but she did an okay job. I am not sure they want to put Nene on the track because she wouldn’t be serious about it. I don’t think it was about sharing the spotlight but she wants to shine and this is a real challenge for her and not Nene. People need to stop always putting him down. Maybe she is a pathological liar but she is a person with feelings and not perfect. We have nasty and disgusting faults. Some of us are pretentious like the Real Housewives of New York, some of us are trashy like some of the Real Housewives of Orange County, and some of us are ignorant as hell like some of the Real Housewives of New Jersey.

Kudos to Kandi Burruss for trying to work with Kim, though putting her music career and credibility on the line, she showed how diverse her skill set is and how wonderful of a person she is. I don’t know much about the music industry; that includes legal, contracts, negotiating, recording processes, financial risks and responsibilities and how deals get made! I would love to learn about that industry for knowledge but there is a whole game in this industry and each player has their own strategy to win the audiences over! I am sure Kandi does a great job and she is serious with her music but I would like to see her coach younger artist and write music for all kinds of artist in different genres. She is definitely multi-talented and further along than her ex-bandmates but she has a lot of opportunities at her doorstep. She is young and has a lot of time to make an impact!

Speaking of Tardy for the Party and impact, what is Sheree’s story line this year? We just see her going to parties, trying to pull wigs off, throwing her own parties, going to body building championships, looking for a man, training, etc. What is she doing that is fruitful and impactful? She is a mother and that is the biggest job of all but how is she supporting herself? We know she did not get a lot of money and that is really none of our business. But what is she doing for her kids and is she teaching value to her 3 kids ( that includes her eldest daughter she doesn’t claim). I don’t know Sheree from a hole in the wall and I am only going by what I see on reality TV (because it’s so real). She stay mean mugging and as young as she wants to look, she is going to look real old soon if she keep frowning.

Sheree sure wasn’t frowning in any of her alter ego photos. I believe Sheree and Kandi had the best alter ego photos. Kandi’s was the most impactful and very tasteful. Nene as a stripper was….decent but I don’t know if her picture was the best. The reveal party was packed with people and they seemed like they had a great time. I was surprised that Nene held her composure with Kim’s injury and dramatics. Kim’s legs did look tore the hell up but she did go the extra mile.

As I write this, I realize that I am just giving a recap of the show and throwing my little comments in here and there. However, what I really want to say is that these women need to get their act together. All of the ladies from the Real Housewives franchise are a bit ghetto and don’t represent reality….just their realities. It’s not a problem to look at the lives of others but we are not them and can’t live their lives, vice versa.

I wish Bravo would look deep into the lives of women who stay home with their kids every night. Pick them up for school and take them to their 100 extra circular activities. The real ups and downs of married life, taking care of a home or apartment, paying bills and worrying about job security. Only 5% of American’s live in luxury and the other 95% have real life problems and have to deal with those challenges everyday. That’s not to say the rich and famous don’t have real life problems but they don’t face what average people face.

One Tree Hill Season 7 Premiere

One Tree Hill has been my favorite show since it aired in 2003. I stopped watching the show for two seasons but I came back with a burning passion for the show! Ever since season 5 I've been an addict. The opening of the show was okay. Dan's presence is always creepy...his character tries to hard to be in the lives of those who fell out of love with him 4 seasons ago but I guess he serves some moral support or insightful purpose.

Haley (Bethany Joy Galeotti) is back into her music and that where she should be. I hope that she gets everything she wants this season because the past two seasons she has had to sacrifice a lot! She is maybe the only one who hasn't aged on the show! She knows the fountain of youth.I've always loved Haley James Scott. I love here name, her attitude, swag, style, her love for Nathan and Jamie, etc. I've always seen myself in Haley's character. She has drive and great ambitions! She is sweet but feisty and that describes me in a nutshell. She is cute and smart and I can identify with that.

It seems they are trying to close down Peyton's label but I think Haley is going to be the hero to save the label and its going to really embrace Peyton's vision. Haley is just awesome and I love her package; she kicks major ass!

Let's just say I started the episode off a little mad at Nathan because I thought he was cheating. But as the show went on he seemed a bit shady and cocky! Knowing Nathan, he probably did not cheat and he is being framed. Nathan is always getting himself in these dramatic situations with crazy ass bitches!

I feel disconnected from the show a little because without P. Sawyer (Hilarie Burton) and Lucas Scott (Chad Michael Murray), the show has little substance. The show has always been built around their love hate relationship and they've always been the focal point of the show. Somehow they were the glue that kept the show together. Peyton without Brooke is like going without water for one year! I hate to say this but I've learned a lot of life lessons watching the friendship between Peyton and Brooke, the relationship between Peyton and Lucas, and between Nathan and Haley James Scott!

As always I love the mixing of story lines, the emotion, the pace, oh and the music! Brooke and Julian are okay together but we will see how their relationship turns out! I think Julian will be the one for Brooke Davis (Sophia Bush)! Brooke is lonely and it shows. Her character did a complete 180! I love Brooke because of her strength and her ability to overcome many obstacles. She has soul and she wears it light a tight leather dress.

Mouse, Skillz, Millicent, Lauren, Dan and others still don't have much of a story line but they are relevant characters! They are salt and pepper...they spice up the show and make it taste and look good! I am surprised that Skillz (Antown Tanner) did not get dropped from the show with all his legal troubles! I am sure at some point in this season they will drop him but it's only a matter of time.

I have a few major predictions as to what is going to happen this season of One Tree Hill. Haley will find out about the troubles with Nathan and maybe leave him; especially since her sister Quinn is going through martial drama.Haley loves Nathan and will probably stay but Haley might just stick up for herself this year and finally leave Nathan. There is definitely going to be tension between Haley, Nathan and Jamie.

A main character is going to die! Like that's really a shocker. The show will probably end this year so Lucas and Peyton will probably make 1 or 2 guest appearances. A major revelation will rock the residents of Tree Hill. Someone is bound to get pregnant and someone will be stricken with tragedy. Maybe Moira Kelly will come back as a regular, Andy in tow!

I love the show and I am glad they brought it back for one more season. Not the strongest season premiere but a decent one. I am still in love. Let's not remake the show in 15 years from now! When Jamie is 19 and he is dating little Sawyer.

P.S.: I love love love love love love love the music on this show! Always great!

Grown Men Dancing like Idiots

I've always found the latest dances created by some of today's popular rappers are quite disturbing. To me seeing a grown ass man dancing around like a fool is not attractive but young teens and adults find these dances catchy. I think I lost it when I saw a group of actors on 90210 doing I think the "Crank That" dance. I guess its okay to see them dancing to whats hot but its they way they are doing that makes these dances seem even more silly. Watch clip below...it's around the 6 min mark.

I know the dance crazes are part of culture and meant to be catchy but I don't find this type of dancing catchy or sexy! The main rapper and record producer I speak of is Soulja Boy Tell Him. These dances are popular among young teens but I think for a man of 19 years of age, it's not cute! I also understand that these dances are just an element of hip hop culture; seeds from the streets of mainly black communities. Soulja Boy is talented and I am sure he has a bright future ahead of him but these dances are sickening and I think they only appeal to the CEO's (mainly white men and woman) more than to the targeted audiences. Of course they want the black man running around on stage and  camera dancing like idiots.

What makes it sad is that 100 other lil rappers are going to try to replicate the efforts of SoulaBoy and they will think they are contributing to culture. To me, they are dumbing down black communities by not making positive and music that invokes change agents and advocates. Do you need a catchy dance to illustrate your music. I know Soulja Boy was trying to differentiate himself from what's out there today but do something that's different but real positive. Music is supposed to reflect moods, life, situations and issues, etc. What they hell is a grown man making these dances for?

Maybe I just don't understand or I can't articulate my feelings correctly but Nas, Nick Cannon and Affion perfectly described what I am trying to say in their "Eat That Watermelon" PSA.

Hip hop definitely took a nose dive when Puff Daddy, P.Diddy, Puff "Sean Combs" Diddy blasted onto the scene. Hip hop use to have meaning and soul...made you feel you were an advocate for something. Now, its filled with these ridiculous dances and tunes that make no damn sense. It seems we have to shake our ass, get crunk or diss somebody to get the foot in the door. Let it be known that I am not a hip hop ride or die chick, I appreciate good music when I hear it. I love all music because music has the way to express my soul with poetic lyrics! But nowadays, you got Lil Wayne, T-Pain and all these others fools making money off their whack ass rhymes and silly ass dances!

Soulja Boy is paid though so the joke is on me and the others that feel the way I do. He will laugh all the way to the bank for years to come so what we going to do. It would be great if he wakes up and realizes he has the power to change communities! He can still make music but change your style...change in style always happens.

P.S.: I guess I would have to give the same speech about Missy Elliot. She is a grown ass woman (38 yrs young)  dancing up a storm and most of her lyrics make no sense! But her shit is hot! Her style has not changed since she came onto the scene...her music has been catchy though! The difference between Soulja Boy and Missy Elliot is that she is not dumbing down communities...she is just simply entertaining! I am sure I will elaborate on that more next time!

What do you think of the latest dance crazes sweeping the nation started by today's rappers? Is it dumbing down communities or providing clean entertainment?

Sheree Whitfield aka Fashion Guru..Not

Last night I watched the Real Housewives of Atlanta and most of the episode was dedicated to Lisa Wu Hartwell's viewing of her new fashion line "Closet Freak." I have to admit that I love the name of her clothing line and I think the meaning will be different for every woman. Obviously her clothing line was not made for lovely plus size women but her and Evelyn Lambert's work and vision is fantastic. I am not a fashion guru or have much fashionable and trendy taste, but I can appreciate pretty clothes. When you look fab you feel fab and I think their vision is aligned with that saying.

Lisa and Evelyn made a great first start and they should be proud of themselves. Lisa aligned her business with a well-known and accomplished designer. However, I think Lisa should have let Evelyn introduce herself more in the spotlight. That could have just been the editors cut and viewers probably did not experience the fashion show in its entirety. Kudos to both of them and hopefully they have a great working relationship.

Now on to the haters! Sheree was hating on Lisa big time and she should be ashamed of herself. Her son probably did have a recital and if so, Sheree had a very good reason for arriving late. But that could have been a lie, at this point, it's all speculation. Kids are more important than anything and their events should not be missed. If that is the truth, why didn't Sheree tell Lisa that her son had a recital and she would be very late. But at the same time Sheree does not need to tell everyone her business and what she is doing every second of her life. The male stylist, I think his name was Tracy, did not have to jump on her like that. Sheree could have been in a sticky situation and just did not want to tell anyone.

What I didn't like about Sheree was that she was hating big time regardless. Since when is she the fashion guru? People who watch the show probably did not know Sheree before last season. We know she was married to a great football legend, she has an older daughter she denies, was a hood rat back in Ohio and is not the nicest person. She seems to live well above her means and only cares about herself. That is why her fashion show seemed to be falling apart again but she is always asking for way to much. Build a reputable following of your work and then become a diva, not vice versa. Maybe she was always into fashion but she did not start her fashion line until the wonderful people at Bravo came knocking. Does she travel the world attending fashion events? Did she intern with a famous and accomplished designer? Where does her vision come from? I think the answer to all these questions is no.

She complains about Lisa not knowing how to sow or sketch but neither does Sheree. Sheree and Lisa are doing the same thing but no one is a copycat as Sheree called Lisa. Sheree does not have the business sense or acumen to pull off what Lisa accomplished in less than a month. However, what market is both ladies serving? Sheree is hating big time and we have no sense of her business plans or goals. What demographic does her fashion line serve? Is it local, regional, national or worldwide? I haven't seen anything from Sheree that seems she has her shit together. Maybe she is suffering in the background and taken on to much than she can chew. This is a lot financial burden.

I was not feeling how Dwight and Nene both commented that the show was a great try but not cigar. Nene is the least fashionable person on the show. Is Dwight a celebrity stylist now among his many talents? Who is he in the fashion industry? I am sure he is somebody but do people rely on him for sound judgment is what I wonder. Everyone has an opinion on fashion but who are the top fashion gurus and experts? It's definitely not Sheree, Lisa, Nene, Kim, Kandi or Dwight.

Let's be real now and stop fronting. Most of the ladies on this show are fronting but it's okay to do a reality TV show for a personal agenda. It's okay to push solo albums, fashion lines, non-profits, wig lines ,etc. Bravo afforded some of these ladies (except Kandi) the opportunity to pursue their dreams and its wonderful that they are. But the cattines needs to stop and they need to support each other.

On a final note, I like how Kim Zolciak said Lisa is not very fashionable. Kim has great taste but who the hell is she in the industry? Showing boobs, thighs, butt and pussy is not attractive  to me. These ladies all have accomplishments but stop fronting and be real...put the real back in "Real Housewives"!!!

P.S.: I don't like how Nene always puts Kim down. If you don't like her and don't appreciate her lifestyle, don't hang around her. She is making herself look low class  and ghetto by all the things she is doing but have the audacity to call others ghetto. Also, doesn't she realize she wears a hair piece herself? Come on Nene, be better than that and if you like to keep it real, snatch your own wig off and lets see what you working with.

The New Melrose Place, What A Stinker

When I was younger I was into Beverly Hills, 90210 but I was never interested in Melrose Place. Let's make it clear that I was a mere baby when both shows aired but sometimes when we are young, we watch shows we have no business watching! I also have to be clear that I don't have much to compare from the old to the 2009 season premiere of Melrose Place. From what I watched this past Tuesday, the show did not pique my interest or engage me. I felt disconnected to the story line and all the characters. Most of the young adults watching the show have no clue about the original cast members. What was the relation of Heather Locklear, Kristin Davis, Daphne Zuniga and others.

I felt disconnected from the beginning of the season premiere. The characters were not introduced formally or informally...and honestly, what is the whole Sydney story line? Who the hell is she and what are connections to all the cast? Especially Violet (Ashlee Simpson Wentz) to make her steal her picture at the end of the show and stuff it in her bag! Is she connected to one of the original castmates? I just think the set-up was horrible and the pay-off is bound to be a hot mess! Everyone seemed to hate Sydney and it was probably the cause in the original Melrose.

I do remember hearing that death was a major part of the original show! These characters all seem so goody and they couldn't hurt a fly. There is no apparent bad boy? Who is the girl that everyone loves and wants piece of? Who is the jealous bitch that must sabotage everyone's happiness so she can feel good about herself? Who is the misguided soul that is a druggie and alcoholic? Every good drama has one of these in some form and I didn't get that feeling from anyone.  The show is doomed from the first episode because the set-up did not explain anything at all. We get a glimpse into the professional lives of these characters but nothing else that makes me want to come back for more.

But there is a strong possibility I will watch the show until it gets canceled. If this show survives and gets picked up for a second season, I will be truly shocked. Why would they put this show on the air when there was a perfectly good show last season by the name of Privileged. I loved the show and it had potential but the marketing team for this show did not give the show the support it needed. I miss this show but not all shows make it.

What can save Melrose Place this season? 1.) Making a stronger connection of all the characters and their relation to the original cast members? 2.) Establishing a new identity and appeal from the original show. 3.) If they are going to pick-up where the original left off, there is some explaining to do do!  4.) Interesting, love and hate story lines. 5.) Acting lessons for Ashlee Simpson Wentz 6.) More diversity as always 7.) Expansion of lesbo story line.

Until next week...

P.S.: Can we put entertainment back into TV and movies?  What are your thoughts on the lack of entertainment in most TV programs over the last 5-7yrs?

Season 2 of 90210

I just finished watching the season 2 premiere of 90210 and I was a bit perturbed by what I saw. This is a show that is obviously trendy, eye-catching, drama filled and interesting to young teen girls. I know that this is just a show but it bothers me to see girls drinking and having promiscuous sex with unknown men, younger women dating older men, back-stabbing, and women not finding the power to forgive. If the show wasn't filled with all these juicy ingredients, why would audiences come back for more? They simply would not. However, writers don't have to glorify problems that plague teenage society today. It is not okay to be 16 years young and dating men 40 years old! It is not okay to have wild sex with STD's running rampant, especially in the younger community.

We need to teach girls and boys, especially pre-teens and high-school bound kids, that these actions are not desirable and the end consequences can cause a lifetime of pain. Will I continue to watch the show? Yes, I probably will. Sadly I am hooked on the show and will need life support if I stop watching but I do want the writers to look at the possible negative perceptions they are feeding the teenage population! They are in a very powerful position to influence teenage thinking and if younger audiences see their favorite actors acting a damn fool...well guess what they would do? They do not know the different been reality and fiction...even though some of these stories are ripped from the headlines. Note to writers, proceed with caution!

Now that the good words are out the way let me say that this season premiere was different. I loved the way that the friendship switched from Naomi, Silver and Adrianna. This may not be the perfect relationship but three personalities that completely crash is quite entertaining. The girls are absolutely hot this season but can they throw a black sistah in the mix! I know Anna Lynn Mccord is apparently mixed but I would like to see more diversity. Even an Asian girl would be a great addition...too much white across the screen. Diversity is great but not token diversity!

Annie is definitely a misguided soul this season but her pain is what she needs to become a better character. Dixon needs to step up and stretch the acting capabilities I know he can do it and stop being the token black guy. I do think he should explore relationships with other women and what he wants to do. What does Dixon like to do? I don't feel connected to him or any of his story lines. But he is a cutie!

I am loving the Adrianna and Navid 'No Sex' story line. That is so sweet and I hope they stick to it but explore the dangers of temptation. I mean Adrianna already had a baby, been to rehab and had a whirlwind first two years of high school but they can do so much with her character. I love her this season. Navid has a little David Silver complex going on this season but he is a teen and acting on his teenage hormones.

They need to decide what they want to do with Naomi and Liam, how many episodes are we going to have to wait until the truth is revealed. Where is Kelly Taylor and Brenda Walsh?? I don't see a need for Brenda's character but bring Kelly back.

On my last note, I love how we were able to see less of the rents and more of the kids. I love the rents but they give moral support and that's all we need to see.

Until next week...
